Identifying Features:

Landlocked salmon have a gray-green back with a silver head and sides and a white belly. It has a series of black spots in a lateral line on its body.

Habitat:

Landlocked salmon inhabit clear, cold lakes (with gravelly inlets for spawning) on the Atlantic coast. The preferred water temperature is 53-59 °F.

How: The female digs a nest-like depression called a "redd" by brushing aside small gravel. The female deposits her eggs in the redd. The female abandons the nest to return to the lakes.
